C6 CORVETTE FACTORY NAVIGATION RETROFIT

PURCHASING A USED NAVIGATION UNIT

First thing you will need to do is purchase the radio head itself.  I bought mine on eBay for $600.  I have seen them go from $500 to $2500, so do your homework and don't get in the middle of a bidding frenzy.

You will need to purchase a GPS antenna as well.  I have seen some eBay listings that state “GPS antenna included” but then show a picture of the OnStar antenna.  This seems to be a common mistake.  The OnStar antenna is a black box that is mounted on the inside of the windshield to the right of the rear view mirror.  The GPS antenna is mounted under the dash, to the left of the center HVAC vents.  That ugly black rubber block ($55,000 and this is the best they can do???) on the top rear of your car is the XM antenna.

The GPS antenna can be purchased at your local Chevrolet dealer.  I ordered it and they had it the next day.    GM PART NUMBER: 15821094     Retail $60      List $47

GPS ANTENNA

Whoever you purchase the Nav unit from, be sure to get the Navigation System Map DVD.  These are PRICEY.  The 2008 disk currently sells for $200.  Older disks can be purchased on eBay as well.  Mine came with a 2005 disk and will be fine for now.  Also, try and score the Navigation Owners manual or else you’ll be guessing the proper voice commands (there are over 170) .

IMPORTANTYou will need the VIN NUMBER from the car in which it was removed !!!!!!  Once you install the radio and start the car, it will go into THEFTLOCK mode.  Only a Chevrolet dealer can unlock it.  They will use the VIN from the donor car and “Marry it” to your VIN in the cars computer.  We’ll get into that later.  Get a receipt and DOCUMENT EVERYTHING.  You are going to have to prove to the dealer that it is not stolen.

TOOLS:  a T15 and T25 Torx screwdriver, 7mm socket or nut driver, small thin flat screwdriver, and a needle nose pliers.

The GPS antenna and the Navigation System Map disk can both be purchased online at www.gmpartsdirect.com

They had the antenna listed for $65 and the map disk for $199.  You will need the VIN from the DONOR car to purchase new map disks.  All GM disks are not compatible.
