C6 CORVETTE FACTORY NAVIGATION RETROFIT |
|
Before we begin, let me start with this: You are not going to be able to install the GPS antenna in the EXACT factory location without a chain saw, dynamite and 20 hours labor. Now that we got that out of the way, allow me to explain.
The factory installs it before the car is assembled, therefore to get at the mounting tabs the top of the dash would have to come out. LUNACY. Everyone I spoke to who either installed a factory radio or an aftermarket radio all mounted the antenna in the same place. On top of the left center HVAC duct. I did it, and it works fine.
I’m sure there are a few of you out there that are concerned with losing 1/100th of a point at some NCRS show in the year 2075 and demand that I disclose the factory location. So for you fools, it is to the left of the center HVAC vents. There are two mounting nubs for this purpose. With a flashlight, mirror, and x-ray vision you can actually see them.

Double stick tape helps hold it in place. Run the wire behind the vents and to the radio opening.
You are now ready to install the radio. Time to this point should be approx 30 minutes.
Something to consider before continuing. The factory Nav does not allow you enter destinations while the car is moving. It senses a signal from the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) so you have to be at a dead stop to enter information. I have already found this to be annoying. The fix: install a switch so that you can disable the VSS. You would need moderate skills for this. Here is a good link that details such a modification. READ
If you are going to do that Mod, now would be the time. |

Read this post on installing a Pioneer unit in a C6. You can see he mounted the GPS and XM antenna in the same place I did. READ
